Workshop location and venue

Pécs is the fifth largest city in Hungary with a population of about 180,000 as the administrative, educational and scientific centre of the South Transdanubian region in the south part of the country near to Croatia. This town is famous for its old university, several historical monuments, museums, beautiful locations and recreational facilities around the settlement. Pécs will be the European Capital of Culture in 2010.

The University of Pécs represents and accepts as its own a great tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. As the first university in Hungary was founded in 1367 by the Anjou King Louis the Great in Pécs with the Faculty of Law. The present-day university has 10 faculties with a modern and dynamically developing European institution offering various educational, cultural, sporting and recreational opportunities. With its more than 33000 students and nearly 2000 teachers and researchers the impact of the University of Pécs extends to the whole Transdanubian region of Hungary.

The venue of the EVS workshop is the Faculty of Sciences, located to western direction from the city center and railway or bus station, near to the west part of Mecsek Mts. There is a Botanical Garden that has been founded in 1952 in the district of the Faculty of Sciences as a local nature conservation area. In the territory of the garden a sport center has been established for our teachers, students and outer visitors as well.
